Eva Whitney, Orofino Woman, Dies At Spokane
OROFINO - Mrs. Eva Ruth Whitney, 71, a resident of Orofino and Greer since 1946, succumbed at Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, Monday afternoon at 2:10 from a heart attack.
She had been a patient there for five days and in failling health for the last year.
She married C. T. Whitney July 27, 1917, at Missoula, Mont. In 1923 she and her husband moved to California where he worked in the oil fields. In 1926 they moved to Nevada. Subsequently in 1946 they moved to Orofino where they farmed in the Upper Fords Creek area near here.
In 1951 they moved to Greer area and started the Arcadian Nursing Home. In January, 1965 they retired.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1897, at Electric, Mont., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Welcome. Her father was a merchant there. She grew up there and attended business college at Helena, Mont.
Surviving are her husband, at their home, two daughters, Mrs. Berne (Betty) Davis, Colfax, and Mrs. William (Ruth) Bird, Orofino, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at Gilbert's Chapel, Orofino, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ray L. Whitlow, pastor of the Orofino Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be at the Colfax City Cemetery at Colfax, Wash. at 2 p.m.
